Seattle, the American gem of the Pacific Northwest, is a cool place to visit. It combines the ocean, mountains, and city all into one area, in other words – it’s perfect for anyone. Though it has a reputation to be seen as a sad rainy city, it did not even drizzle once when I went in early October. It was sunny and perfect, and even if it isn’t when you’re there, I recommend going to the following places that I truly loved. They are all walkable (fly in, take an uber to a hotel near the Space Needle and enjoy this gorgeous area for a weekend on foot, rain or shine).

Pike Place Market

Pike Place

Pike Place is classic Seattle. This long stretching market has a wide range of products– (smelly but fresh) fish and seafood caught that morning, fresh fruit, bagels and pastries, candy, even antique trinkets, and so much more. Local artists set up booths selling handmade bags, shirts, miniature clay figures, custom bouquets, and new things to be discovered daily. The view of the harbor is perfection. Grab a coffee and head here to browse and soak in the true flavor of the city.

You can also take the quick and easy harbor cruise for great skyline pics! Although, I spent most of my time trying to keep my hair out of my eyes, it was worth it.

The Original Starbucks

PSL at the original

Across the street from the Pike Place Market lies an historical relic of American coffee – the original Starbucks, the first of its kind that opened 1971. I thought it would be just another run of the mill Starbucks, but I was blown away. I don’t even care much for the chain as I usually support local coffee shops. But this is truly original and tastes 100% better than any other Starbucks I’ve been to. So if you like Starbucks normally, you’re gonna be blown away! A line piled outside in the street as an employee let in a few people at a time, and I felt like I was at Disneyland. When inside, you can browse through exclusive merchandise that is only available to the specific location itself. I ordered a pumpkin spice latte (I happened to be there on the anniversary of the first ever pumpkin space latte served right here!!) and was so surprised at how good it was. I see how they got so popular. Only wish the others world-wide could be this good. The Original Starbucks is the best Starbucks.

Chihuly Garden and Glass

chihuly glass

I’ve never been to a museum like Chihuly Garden and Glass. It feels surreal as you step into a mystical world made of glass. There are displays directly above you that you can admire from every angle as well as others you must search through the bushes to find glass orbs. Some displays are more abstract (but still intricate with detail) and some are more realistic (like a glass octopus resting on coral!). This museum is a must visit for art lovers and any one else who appreciates unique and beautiful things.

Space Needle

Though it is an obvious tourist spot, I would definitely recommend going to the iconic Seattle Space Needle. You know you want to. And it’s worth it! Go here before or after the Chihuly museum, as they’re next door neighbors. What you’re gonna see at the top is better than Insta photos: Stunning views of the city, Mt. Rainier, the ocean, the surrounding islands, and even interesting rooftop spider statues! There is a merch shop downstairs where you can find good souvenirs and interesting history to learn while you’re in the line for the elevator.

Museum of Pop Culture

X File at MOPOP
The X Files is just one of the many cool TV and scifi exhibits at the MOPOP.

Offering a variety of exhibits, the Museum of Pop Culture (aka the MOPOP) is a must see. Whether you entertain yourself with music, art, movies, TV shows, or even books, you can find some of everything here. There are cool props from movies and shows that really bring the stories to life in a new way. The theming is excellent, with spooky music playing in the horror section, mysterious music in the space adventure area, and songs of the famous musicians in the music areas. I was surprised at how unique and special this museum really is.
